Lords of an Angel by
author Faye Wallace, a Nashua resident and working mom of three
boys. The book traces
the romance of a Moslem woman --- Fur’eshte (translated Angel in
English) -- and a Scottish Lord, Patrick Campbell, whose fate is
sealed by their undying love for each other, despite seemingly insurmountable
obstacles.
The
tale combines historical facts and circumstances with fictitious
characters, loosely based on the lives of Henry VIII of England and
Sultan Suleyman of the Ottoman Empire as well as their wives,
mistresses and concubines.
The reader is quickly drawn into the hearts and minds and
daily lives of historic royal courtiers and the royal families of
the east and west during the early 16th century,
traveling with them through their trials and tribulations. Wallace
covers the more human side of the characters’ lives not usually
found in history books, carefully blending traditions of east and
west with a romantic story.
The author’s inspiration for Lords of an Angel stems from
her real-life experience and personal knowledge of the Islamic
world, having been born and raised in Iran herself. As the eldest
daughter of an influential, wealthy and highly respected merchant
during the reign of the Shah, Wallace fled Iran during its
tumultuous revolution. Her long journey ended in New Hampshire,
where she now lives with her husband, a British national with whom
she is raising three sons.
